Walks programme 2010

We meet for a group walk once a month, except December.  Most of the walks are within Hertfordshire but from time to time we stray into one of our neighbouring counties.

The current walks programme is given below. Although we usually try to include a pub stop for lunch, and the walk leader will have checked it out beforehand, it does happen that pubs change hands, so we can not guarantee that the chosen pubs will still be serving food by the time of the walk. We include details of the lunchtime stop, so that anyone who doesn't want to walk the full distance can either join or leave the main group at lunchtime.  Remember: whenever you have to leave your car in a residential area, park it with due consideration for those who live there.  All are welcome on these walks (but no dogs please), and no payment is required, but if you join us on a regular basis we would ask you to become a member of the Society. 

Unless otherwise stated, we aim to start walking at 10.00 am, so you should arrive at the start point in good time to park your car and put your boots on.  The leader will not normally wait for late-comers.

2010

January 18th

10.5 miles.  Meet at Clapgate, TL 441248.  Pub stop at Furneux Pelham.

February 22nd

10 miles.  Meet  for a 10-30 am departure by the John Betjeman Statue in St Pancras Station.  Coffee stop in Russell Square, lunch at the Dickens Inn, St Katharine’s Dock.  Bring your own refreshment for an afternoon stop at Postman’s Park

March 15th

10 miles.  Meet at Newgate Street recreation ground car park (TL 300050).  There will be a pub stop for lunch in Essendon at the Rose & Crown (TL 274083, post code AL9 6HW).

March 29th

This is an extra walk, arranged because public transport problems prevented a number of people from joining the February walk.  Details are exactly as for the February walk, namely: 10 miles.  Meet  for a 10-30 am departure by the John Betjeman Statue in St Pancras Station.  Coffee stop in Russell Square, lunch at the Dickens Inn, St Katharine’s Dock.  Bring your own refreshment for an afternoon stop at Postman’s Park

April 19th

11 miles.  Meet at Stapleford Village Hall (TL 310170).  There is parking in part of old road behind bus shelter or further into the village.  Pub lunch at Tewin.  This will be a spring flower walk. 

May 17th

10 miles.  Meet in Barley (TL 400385). Park on the roads.  Lunch in Barkway. 

June 21st

10½ miles.  Meet at Royston Heath Sports Club car park (TL 347405, post code SG8 5BG).  There will be a pub lunch; check the website nearer the time for details.

July 19th

11 miles.  Meet at Whitwell recreation ground (TL 183209).  Lunch at the Strathmore Arms, St Paul’s Walden (TL 193221).
