Walks programme 2010

We meet for a group walk once a month, except December.  Most of the walks are within Hertfordshire but from time to time we stray into one of our neighbouring counties.

The current walks programme is given below. Although we usually try to include a pub stop for lunch, and the walk leader will have checked it out beforehand, it does happen that pubs change hands, so we can not guarantee that the chosen pubs will still be serving food by the time of the walk. We include details of the lunchtime stop, so that anyone who doesn't want to walk the full distance can either join or leave the main group at lunchtime.  Remember: whenever you have to leave your car in a residential area, park it with due consideration for those who live there.  All are welcome on these walks (but no dogs please), and no payment is required, but if you join us on a regular basis we would ask you to become a member of the Society. 

Unless otherwise stated, we aim to start walking at 10.00 am, so you should arrive at the start point in good time to park your car and put your boots on.  The leader will not normally wait for late-comers.

2010

July 19^th

11 miles.  Meet at Whitwell recreation ground (TL 183209).  Note the change for lunch stop which will now be at the Woodmans Arms, Norton Green (TL 229232). 

August 23^rd

10 miles.  Meet at the church in Much Hadham (TL 430197).  Please park with care along Church Lane or at the N end of the High Street.  Lunch at the White Horse in Wareside (TL 396155).  A circular walk based on the Hertfordshire Way with optional stop for light refreshments at Hopleys Garden Centre.

September 20^th

10 miles.  Meet in the NT car park (TL 000184) on Bison Hill, Whipsnade, off the B4540 road.  Lunch at the Cross Keys, Castle Hill, Totternhoe (SP 980219).  Easy walking over Dunstable Downs followed by slightly more demanding ascent of Castle Hill in the Totternhoe Knolls.  Fairly level after lunch but steep climb to car park at the end.

October 18^th

12 miles.  Meet in the NT car park in Ashridge Forest just off the Aldbury road (SP 972118).  Lunch at the Plough in Potten End (TL 018091).

November 22^nd

Short walk before Christmas Dinner.  Meet at the Cock Inn, Church Lane, Sarratt (TQ 040987).  For Members Only and pre-booking of Christmas dinner is essential.
